When the “deck” which is also the roof over the FDR was scraped clean, it was discovered that it had a stepped surface, which required a reworking of many construction plans. The new expected completion date is now end of June 2019. You may have wondered about the large, rectangular, white columns you see stacked up at 57th Street Park. These are actually made of foam, and are used to raise the ground level of the connector park. Without them, too much earth would have to be piled up on the deck — more than it can bear. The Parks Department, State of New York, and contractors are working to ensure the safety of all, whether above or under the park grounds! When finished, it promises to be a beautiful addition to our park space and we look forward to celebrating the opening. Watch for an announcement of a public celebration on the opening of the new park.
